New 3G Pitch Opens at the Stanley Sports Hub

Accrington Stanley Community Trust’s new 3G artificial grass pitch (AGP) opened on Monday 14th October at the new Stanley Sports Hub on Thorneyholme Road in Accrington.

The new full-size pitch was made possible thanks to investment from the Premier League, The FA and Government, through their charity, the Football Foundation.

After netting a £1m grant from the Football Foundation as well as raising a further £1m from other sources, work begun on the new pitch in July 2019. It has taken just 12 weeks from the contractors arriving on site to the opening of the new 3G Pitch.

Martin Fearon, CEO at Accrington Stanley Community Trust said:

‘’After 4 years of planning this project, we are absolutely delighted to see the opening of the new 3G pitch. In the first week of opening we have had a tremendous turn out, with over 1000 people participating in sport. The new pitch will drive up participation rates in Hyndburn and ensure our local sports groups have a top-class playing surface.

We have received great feedback from the groups using the facility and we look forward to seeing the full site open in early 2020. This is a facility our community can be proud of for many years to come.’’

The full size 3G pitch is located on the lower section of the site and will provide a fantastic playing experience for its users. The pitch can be split into a variety of playing areas suitable for 5, 7, 9 and 11-aside football. This state-of-the-art pitch will prioritise use on evenings and weekends for local grassroots clubs and community activities. Bookings are made on the hour, and evening use will end at 10pm.

In the first week of opening, over 1000 people participated in football and rugby on the new pitch from a variety of groups including grassroots teams, sports groups and schools.

We would like to thank Lano Sports and Charles Lawrence Contractors for building this magnificent new 3G Pitch.
